The YMIA

I just saw a news program in which someone actually said, "You need to ask yourself the question, 'Why are all terrorists Muslim?'"

The last I checked, not all terrorists are Muslim.  Timothy McVeigh, anyone?  The IRA ring a bell?

Would it be acceptable for the Catholic church to be prevented from building a church or community center near the site of an IRA bombing?  Most reasonable people would respond negatively.  Because, at the end of the day, reasonable people realize that not all Catholics are like that.  In fact, most are not.

However, when someone wants to build a Muslim Community Center near ground zero, people go crazy.  Why?  The group behind the community center is not the same sect as those who attacked the WTC.

To refer back to my example above, it would be like someone throwing a fit because ANGLICANS wanted to build a community center near an IRA bombing site.  Because, you know, they're Christian, and so are those TERRORISTS.

Let's be real here.  This has little to do with hallowed ground or what have you, and A LOT to do with fear of the unknown.  Islam is an exotic religion to most Americans.  Many Americans do not have a lot of experience with it.  It's the OTHER.  And humans are very good at fearing other humans.

We are talking about a freaking gym, you know.  A gym!  This is what you're afraid of???  A gym?

Well, I guess the terrorists did a pretty good job on you.  Cowards.
